Kit Carson is an artist who has chosen jewelry, especially hand-engraving, to illustrate his fascination with and love of the southwestern desert. The intimate scale of jewelry allows him to showcase his detailed engraving. "I enjoy watching people connect with a piece, as they inspect it closely and fall into the joy of my world." He begins with a drawing which allows him to see the connections, proportions and subtleties of the landscape. "Inspiration rushes through me like a desert flash flood slapping the dust out of a dry arroyo" It is the nostalgic freedom of the western landscape and a return to a natural and simple life that he wants to capture in his art. His themes include ravens, dragonflies, cactus, bones, cowboys and anything else he discovers in the desert. His version of the "Day of the Dead" is always evolving. This provides him with an endless variety of overlapping resolve to his compositions."
